How to Style Three Trending Outerwear Pieces

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Jackets and coats have been my latest obsession these past few months, which is probably a great thing since it is currently -10 degrees as I write this. So, you can say that extra layers are a necessity for me at the moment, no matter their form. I have loved all the different trends of outerwear that this cold season has brought, and wish I could try out each and every one of them! There have been a few that have soon out to me a little more than the rest this year though, and are ones that I think we should all try before the crisp (or unbearably cold for some of us) air is gone. I want to talk through each of the outwear trends that have been making a statement this season, and tips on how to style each one so you can make a statement in them yourself!

Faux Fur

Obviously faux fur coats and jackets have been around for a long time now, but they seem to be especially popular this season. They can be dressed up or down, and always add a sense of luxury to an outfit.

How to Style: For a chic and everyday kind of outfit try pairing a blush faux fur jacket with a cream sweater, black denim, and black pointed-toe booties. This is such a great way to kind of tone down the fancy aspect of a faux fur coat, and make it a part of a more casual and everyday look!

The Teddy

Some of you might be thinking, “Isn’t this kind of the same thing as a faux fur coat or jacket?”. Although they have the similar idea as a faux fur coat or jacket, they are actually different. Usually the teddy piece is made out of material such as sherpa, shearling, or pile. They give amazing texture to an outfit, and in my opinion, can be styled in a casual way more easily than a faux fur coat or jacket.

How to Style: Try pairing a camel or tan teddy jacket with a gray mock-neck top, black denim, black booties, a striped cabby hat, and a black purse.

The Aviator

This kind of jacket has been really catching my eye lately. They are usually lined or have a collar of sherpa or shearling (which are the materials that many teddy coats are made out of). The body of the jacket is usually either faux leather or faux suede. I personally gravitate toward the suede ones a little more because some of the leather ones can have a little too much “bikerish vibes” for my personality (if that makes any sense haha). I think these jackets make great layering pieces, and is a trend that has been around for a while that is just a little more apparent at the moment.

How to Style: Pair a gray aviator jacket with black denim, a white and black striped mock-neck top, a black baker boy hat, and black booties.

OTHER FAVES OF MINE:

These three styles of outerwear are ones that I personally do not want to miss out on trying this year. I know that a lot of retailers are coming out with spring and summer items already, but if you live anywhere cold like me you know that it is still going to be a while before we go sleeveless. Take the advantage of retailers trying to push out winter items, and buy them on sale if you can! Hopefully this gives you some inspiration to try these items, and how to style them when you do!!

Thanks for stopping by, Lovely!!

xoxo,

Jade
