Finding A Workout That Works For You + Yoga Mat Giveaway

Okay, let’s get one thing straight before I begin today’s post. I am in no way a fitness or health expert. Not even close, babes!
I have struggled with my weight and self-image insecurities my whole life, which happens to be a whole other lengthy story and something I am always trying to improve! Anyways, although I grew up playing sports, I have always seemed to have a problem with finding a workout that works for me, that keeps me motivated to stick to, and one that I actually love. I have tried a few different workout plans in the recent years, and many of them have been the very popular high intensity interval workouts. One of the ones that I have tried is Kayla’s Bikini Body Guide (which is now referred to as SWEAT with Kayla). I stuck to this workout for a little while, and I am convinced that it truly has the ability to work! For some reason though, I found myself not sticking to those kind of workout plans, and finding excuses not to do them (one of those reasons was that it was hard, and if any of you do these workouts or have done them, you know they can be hard as heck). I got frustrated though when I would see before and after pictures of women who began the program in worse shape than I was in. I was so proud of these women for sticking with it, and getting the results that they hoped for, but I found myself upset that I could not stick to it and get the results I wanted. Why couldn’t I do it?
I have always had this problem though. When it comes to working out, I have always been unmotivated and honestly… a little flakey.  It has taken me a while to really figure out why that is, and I have finally found out what my problems have been. I realized these problems when I finally found the kind of workouts that work for me (which are yoga and barre based workouts), and I want to help you find a workout that works for you, too!
Here’s what you need to do:
Believe in yourself, girl!
First things first. We all need to believe in ourselves! I can work on this as well! We can do this! We have the ability to get the results we want by simply believing that we can! One of my weaknesses is those little voices in my head telling me that I can’t do it. We all need to learn how to turn those voices on mute, or to crank the voices that are telling us that we can do it all the way up!!
Realize what works for everyone else, might not work for you.
Just because there is a workout that is trending, it does not mean that it has to work for you. Like I mentioned above, those HIIT workouts do not seem to work for me in the long-term. I can do them every once in a while, but they are not something I truly enjoy doing, and that is okay!! You do not need to love what everyone else is doing. We all need to understand that everyone’s body and mind are different, and we need to find what works for us and us only!
Understand what you want and need out of a workout.
Like I mentioned above, the HIIT workouts are just not my thing…at least not something that I want to do daily. I have come to the realization that those kind of workouts stress me way out. Just thinking about doing them stresses me out (which is one of the reasons why I think I did not stick to them). I am someone who stresses enough in life, and when I workout I need something that releases that stress instead of creating more. I want something that pushes me, but I also need something that relaxes me at the same time! This is why I choose to do barre and yoga based workouts most days. They help me focus on breathing and relaxing, while I am still working out my body. Try and pinpoint what you want and need out of your workout, and try and find one that meets those wants and needs.
Find a workout that you truly love!
One of the best feelings is looking forward to and getting excited for your workout! There is nothing worse than dreading your workout, and I have found that you do not get as much out of your workout if you have these negative feelings toward it. It might take sometime to find your favorite kind of workout that makes you feel this excited, but I promise you will find it!
Make positive goals!
There is no question that all of us have goals, especially when it comes to fitness and health. I think that making goals are so important and help you reach the results you are looking for. In one of my classes yesterday, my lovely professor was talking about goals and I just needed to add it to this post because I thought it was so important. It also opened my eyes! She talked about how when we are making goals, we need to make sure we are making positive goals…not negative goals. What she meant by this is that when we are making goals we need to focus on improving something and having a positive outcome, instead of focusing on something completely negative. Her example was that instead of having a negative workout goal such as, “I do not want to be like I am anymore”, we should say something like “I want to focus on loosing 10 pounds”, or “I want to work on improving these parts of my body”. When we make positive goals, we are much more likely to stick with them. So when you are making your goals, make ones that are positive, and actually are goals you can work toward and meet.
Make a plan and stay committed to it!
Once you find the workout that gets you out of bed in the morning with a smile on your face and you have set goals, make a plan. Look at your schedule and plan time to do your workout. One quote that has helped when it comes to working out is, “Do not find a time to workout, you need to make time”. This is so true. You need to make it a priority, not just something you might get to if you have the time. Once you have decided when you will do your workouts (how many days of the week and at what time of the day), stay committed to your plan. Remember, a month, or a year down the road, you will be thankful that you decided to stay committed to your workouts.
I am trying to stick with all of the things I have mentioned above as well. Remember, I am no expert here! I am flawed when it comes to working out, so if you are too, know you are not alone! Let’s better ourselves, for ourselves!! Let’s all start now. Know I believe in you, and now all you have to do is start at the beginning and believe in yourself!
